HOLIDAY PHOTOS & UPDATE

Thursday, January 13, 2011 // 6:08 PM

Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday! I know I did! My son was spoiled for Christmas and our apartment is now full of toys and books. Though funny enough, Revan would still rather play with a tupperware container or the tv remote over his toys any day. Here are some of my favorite pictures from Christmas!

New Years was fun as well, we went out to dinner and then came home and watched movies. I love my little family and I can't wait for what this year will bring!

xoxo, Amanda

HAPPY HOLIDAYS

Thursday, December 23, 2010 // 2:33 AM

Is everyone as excited about the holidays as I am? Being that it's my son's first Christmas i'm even more thrilled than usual. I wrapped all of Revan's gifts last night and it was really gratifying being able to write To: Revan, From: Mom and Dad on each tag. There's just something so magical about a first family Christmas. The only difficulty of holidays is deciding if we'll be spending it with my family or my husbands. Last year we went to both family's and it was exhausting having to drive from one to the other and eat two large meals in one day. So we decided this year we would split up the different holidays. We did Thanksgiving with my husband's relatives so now we're doing Christmas with my relatives. After we open presents here we will head over to my parents house and open more presents with them and then wait for the extended family to arrive at which point more presents are exchanged. Top it all off with a huge delicious dinner and lots of wine. We also usually play games like Taboo and Trivial Pursuit after dinner or occasionally Texas Hold Em. Those are my Christmas plans, what are yours?

Hope everyone has a great holiday, I know I will!
xoxo, Amanda

HALLOWEEN TIME!

Friday, October 29, 2010 // 5:02 AM

It's finally here! Well almost..Halloween time! I love this time of year, it's finally starting to cool down here in Phoenix and everyone's getting ready for the holidays. I love walking through stores and seeing all of the creepy items on display and of course the vast amounts of candy for sale. For some reason morbid and strange things have always appealed to me, so it's no wonder I enjoy Halloween so much.

I found some really great photos from a Harper's Bazaar fashion spread from a few years back. Tim Burton helped style the shoot and his morbid take on fashion is truly inspiring and I thought these photos would be perfect to feature for Halloween.

I also found two other really neat photos via a google image search. I'm not sure which magazine they are from, if anyone knows let me know!

Hope everyone has a great Halloween weekend! XOXO

THESE LAST TWO WEEKS

Saturday, October 16, 2010 // 2:53 AM

First off I'd like to apologize for my absence these last two weeks. As I mentioned previously my son Revan started crawling about a month ago and now that he's mastered mobility and is also able to pull up on his own I have no free time. He's constantly getting into trouble and I can't take my eyes off of him for two seconds. Although we have everything baby proofed as best as possible there's still some furniture with sharp edges and I like to keep him within arms reach since he still is a little unsteady on his feet and falls occasionally. The few times I haven't been watching him like a mama hawk he has managed to pour the cats food and water all over himself and the kitchen floor (literally an hour after I swept and mopped it too). He also put a shoe in his mouth and pulled some books off of the bookshelf and ripped out the pages. I guess I just under-estimated how quick and capable he would be now that he is fully mobile. So the 11 hours out of the day that he is awake I am entertaining him or hovering over him while he entertains himself. When Revan is napping I try to get stuff done around the house, spend time with my other half, and every now and then take a much needed nap myself. So as you can see I haven't had a whole lot of time for blogging or anything else for that matter. The last couple days however I've re-adjusted my schedule a bit so that I have more free time in the evenings once my little one is asleep for the night and so far I'm loving the extra me time.

I'm planning on listing some new stuff in my etsy shop tomorrow, I have some great vintage clothing and jewelry and a couple other neat handmade things. So assuming my day goes as planned you can look forward to some great stuff!

Well I have lots of blog reading to catch up on so hope everyone has a great weekend and I have missed you all these last two weeks!

XOXO. Amanda.

DIY TEACUP CANDLES

Friday, October 1, 2010 // 10:34 PM

I found this awesome DIY project on marthastewart.com and thought I would share it. You can make some really pretty teacup candles using teacups and some old candles or wax. I've made a few myself and it's really simple! I would post pictures of the ones I made but my camera is broken so you will just have trust me when I say they look lovely! Here are the instructions on how to make them (taken off this page):

1. In a small pan set over a larger pan of simmering water, melt down old candles; clip the thermometer to the upper pot, and keep temperature at about 185 degrees. Remove old wicks with tongs.

2. Cut a piece of wicking to the cup's height plus 2 inches. Clamp one end to a wick sustainer; tie the other end around a skewer. Dip wicking and sustainer into melted wax to coat them. Remove and stick sustainer to cup's bottom.

 3. Pour in the wax, stopping 1/2 inch below the cup's rim. Allow wax to set, about 1 hour. The candle will harden with a well in the center. To even it out, use another skewer to prick a circle of holes about 1/16 inch deep around the wick. Pour in melted wax until surface is 1/4 inch below rim. Cut wick.

That's it! If anyone decides to make some of these i'd love to see pictures of how they turned out, and i'll try to remember to post some pictures of my own as soon as I get a new camera.

CABIN FEVER

Monday, September 27, 2010 // 5:44 PM

As of late i've been feeling a little down, mainly because our second car's a/c broke so i've been stuck in the house. The mister uses our other car for work and I can't drive around with no a/c in Phoenix, Az, especially with a baby! That's the downside of living in Arizona, it doesn't cool down until November so if  I walk anywhere or drive anywhere without a/c i'll end up drenched in sweat and red as a lobster. It's going to be a few hundred dollars to get the car fixed but hopefully we can get it taken care of in the next few weeks. I can't wait to get out of the house when we do, I feel like such a shut in lately!

My camera also broke a couple weeks ago and we haven't had the money to buy a new one. I haven't been able to list anything new on my etsy shop because of it and have missed out on a lot of great family pictures! My son started crawling a couple days ago and i'm so bummed I can't capture it on film!

Well on a more positive note I found some pretty cool things I wanted to share...

I love everything about this picture, especially the masks. (src)

A real life tree house, pretty impressive. (src)

I can imagine reading a book under this tree or having a picnic! (src)

This plush is adorable, the blog I found it on didn't say where it was from or if it could be bought.
If anyone finds it for sale let me know, would love to own one of these! (src)

How sweet is this little handmade rain cloud! Can be bought here.

Dainty little necklaces by the vamoose.

Cute decor and check out that pink fridge! (src)

So adorable, especially loving the bunny one. (src)

I have a vintage beach cruiser and i'm hoping it looks this cool when it's fixed up. (src)

Probably the best cupcake i've ever seen. (src)

Definitely the best kitty i've ever seen! (src)

Hope you enjoyed all of these things as much as I did and hope everyone had a great weekend! I'll be posting a really neat DIY project I found soon so stay tuned..
 -xoxo. amanda

LOVELY IN LACE

Saturday, September 25, 2010 // 4:31 AM

My favourite fashion trend right now has to be lace, i've been obsessed with it for years now and am glad that it's finally being used more in clothing.
